This course is an introduction to early Jewish and Christian principles and methods for interpreting scripture. It is important for all contemporary Christians to recognize that Christians have attempted to interpret and faithfully follow God’s word since the coming of Christ. Many modern interpretations, both orthodox and heterodox, are rooted in ancient conversations. This course will give the student a wider view of biblical interpretation and help him or her to wrestle with his or her own ideas compared with ancient ones. This course will also survey the basic principles of modern-day biblical interpretation with practical experience.
