This course will help to equip the student to understand the nature and purpose of the Church within the mission of God. This will occur through a thorough discussion of biblical and contemporary literature. A theology of the mission of the Church, specifically in the areas of congregational health and evangelism will be developed. From this theology, practical strategies will be identified and evaluated so that the student is prepared to create and lead a missional congregation.


 The mission of the church to “present everyone perfect in Christ” (Colossians 1:28) is the focus of this course. The characteristics, gifts, skills, and abilities necessary to guide others and self into spiritual maturity will be discussed. The student will be able to describe the various aspects of Christian discipleship. The student will be able to design an effective program for discipling and mentoring others.

This course is a study of the principles of preaching as they relate to rationale, context, content, structure, style, and the delivery of sermons.
