COURSE DESCRIPTION

A study of the basic literary features, historical background, and the theological significance of the Old Testament, with attention also to the origin of the Old Testament canon. Concern for the ministry of preaching and teaching will guide lectures, discussions, and class requirements.
COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is an introduction to early Jewish and Christian principles and methods for interpreting scripture. It is important for all contemporary Christians to recognize that Christians have attempted to interpret and faithfully follow God’s word since the coming of Christ. Many modern interpretations, both orthodox and heterodox, are rooted in ancient conversations. This course will give the student a wider view of biblical interpretation and help him or her to wrestle with their own ideas compared with ancient ones.
